The Art of Color Farrow and Ball Joa Studholme
To quote renowned interior designer Carleton Varney, colour is magic—and there is certainly no shortage of vibrant hues to choose from when decorating your home. Farrow & Ball's Color Curator, Joa Studholme, agrees with this sentiment, and she recently divulged the visitor's paint color trend predictions for 2022, including everything from a vibrant shade of xanthous that will add together some sunshine to any space, to a deep, rich red that will brand whatever room all the more regal.
"There is something inherently human in the colors that we are attracted to for 2022, too as in the mode nosotros use them," said Studholme in a statement. "Décor is moving frontwards while drawing inspiration from the modest grapheme of the world of folk and craft, using five pregnant shades that extol the virtues of a simple life and can be used in whatever combination and in any room."
Beneath, peruse all v of Farrow & Ball'south 2022 pigment colour predictions—and hear how Studholme envisions incorporating them into the home.
Breakfast Room Greenish
"Using ane colour on both walls and woodwork, such as lively Breakfast Room Green, can make a room look bigger by disguising the limits of the infinite," explains Studholme. "The bold use of this one color also creates an exceptional groundwork for art, or for furniture which can be upcycled with a lick of Modern Eggshell."
Incarnadine
Studholme finds it "heartening to see an eclectic mix of styles and colors, called not but for pure pleasure but as role of a keen decorative hack," which is why she advises mixing Incarnadine with School House White and Breakfast Room Green.
School House White
Of form, there always has to be a white in the mix! "Schoolhouse House White is pared back, timeless and familiar simply has a subtle sophistication that makes it the perfect foil for stronger hues like the lively tones of Rock Blue," explains Studholme.
For some added pizzazz, she suggests incorporating Breakfast Room Green (in washable Modern Emulsion) on the lower walls of a room and School House White (in the flatter Estate Emulsion) on the upper walls and ceiling. "This age-old form of decorating introduces colour but below eye level to retain a low-cal and airy temper above, while besides providing durability," she explains.
Rock Blueish
Studholme finds that stronger hues—including the "lively tones" of Stone Blueish—work well with colors such every bit the same School House White.
She adds that incorporating Stone Blue in a Full Gloss choice is "perfect for use in the home in 2022 and tin can be introduced sparingly and in surprising ways (peradventure on a door or a kitchen unit of measurement) to add a modern feel with a suitably vintage flavor."
Babouche
"In 2022, we will enjoy brighter colors that herald a return to normality," predicts Studholme. "The cheerful and unproblematic Babouche is the perfect tone for this task. While bold, it never feels garish or overpowering."
She adds that "rooms that characteristic Babouche appear to be total of sunshine, especially when combined with understated School House White. The palette itself has a simple, folksy feel, but its use across the walls, bath console and floor creates an overall look that is incredibly striking."
